Academic Reading, Writing, and Study Skills course is aimed to substantially improve grade 8, 9, and 10 students’ academic performance in high school and to prepare them for college. The course develops learners’ critical reading and thinking strategies, academic writing and literacy, as well as study skills needed to achieve better learning outcomes in their cross-curricular studies. The course duration is 10 months with two 1-hour instructor-led sessions per week.  


The course is aligned with Ontario Think Literacy learning goals and objectives and incorporates the following elements of Effective Adolescent Literacy Programs:

  • Explicit instruction of reading comprehension strategies and sufficient opportunities for practice
  • Instruction (in a virtual environment) that promotes engagement and self-regulated learning
  • Extensive writing as a measure of comprehension and for academic writing skills development
  • Task-based collaborative learning, graded assignments and thorough feedback
  • Technology to deliver instruction and for learners to track their progress

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Organize your ideas, plan, revise, and edit a range of writing tasks and projects
  •  Construct more sophisticated sentences, summarize texts, write cohesive paragraphs and essays
  • Research, write, and proofread your written work adhering to academic writing standards
  • Use critical reading and thinking skills more effectively for learning across high-school curriculum.

The course materials and tasks are accessed online via Moodle platform,  Zoom is used for weekly web-based sessions.


English for Professional Communication is a learner-centered ESL/EFL course for non-native English speakers who plan to pursue graduate/undergraduate studies in colleges/universities where English is the medium of instruction.   The course is designed to improve participants’ speaking skills, solidify their reading, listening comprehension, pronunciation and expand their professional vocabulary through tasks and instructional strategies that are explicitly presented in web-based trainer-led sessions as well as integrated into self-study tasks. The course covers essential vocabulary for management as well as expressions used in various business situations. 

 The course is suitable for individuals who have attained intermediate to high-Intermediate proficiency in English. It is suitable for non-native English speaking managers and those who aspire to managerial positions.The course content includes a wide range of informative topics/articles that will pique participants’ interest, challenge their views and expand their perspectives. Each unit/topic is accompanied by practice tasks which are designed to develop learners’ professional vocabulary in English, improve their reading/listening comprehension, and use of learning strategies. Trainer-led sessions focus on learners’ development of coherent speaking skills in English.


English for Managers L1 is a web-based synchronous course designed on authentic, up-to-date professionally relevant topics. The emphasis is on developing participants’ English speaking skills through a range of reading/listening tasks and guided speaking practice. 

 The course is suitable for individuals who have attained pre-intermediate to Intermediate proficiency in English. The course content includes a wide range of informative topics/articles on company management and corporate culture. Each unit/topic is accompanied by practice tasks to develop learners’ professional vocabulary in English, improve reading and listening comprehension, and verbal expression. 

Trainer-led online sessions focus on development of learners' speaking accuracy in English.


English Composition course is designed for non-native English speaking students who are enrolled (plan to enrol) in undergraduate / graduate programs at colleges / universities where English is the language of instruction. The course includes information about the academic writing process, writing strategies and practical tasks for developing students' academic writing skills. The course is suitable for students who have intermediate or higher proficiency level in English and who need to improve their writing skills in order to succeed in their studies.

The course consists of 25 modules. Each module focuses on one step or technique in the writing process. As a student, you are not required to have prior knowledge of academic writing, the course will guide you step by step through the process of completing any academic writing assignment.

The course duration is 25 weeks


Business English (BE01) aims to develop learners’ skills in English while also expanding their knowledge about business fundamentals. The learning materials are based on authentic and up-to-date content and real-world case studies. The course is suitable for individuals who have pre-intermediate to intermediate proficiency in English and want to enhance their knowledge of basics of English grammar and professional vocabulary. This course pays equal attention to developing learners’ reading and listening skills, English grammar and vocabulary. Trainer-led group sessions focus on learners’ speaking accuracy in English and enriching their language learning experience.

Trainer-led online sessions focus on developing learners’ speaking fluency and encouraging their use of newly learned business vocabulary and language learning strategies.
